HMB Consultancy CC was founded on 1 March 2010 by Hendrik M Botha ("Hennie"), an admitted Attorney and Professional Quantity Surveyor with more than 23 years of local and international experience in the construction and engineering industry. Hennie holds a LLB (Cum Laude) from the University of South Africa (http://www.unisa.ac.za) and a B.Sc. HMB was founded with the objective of combining legal, commercial and technical expertise into a single specialist service offering. Through Hennie's unique dual qualification and practical experience in both the legal and technical sectors, HMB provides a rare combination of strategic, commercial and dispute-related expertise to clients involved in construction and engineering projects.
A core area of HMB's practice is the provision of specialist Quantum Expert Witness and Claims Consultancy Services on construction and engineering claims and disputes of all sizes and complexity. HMB specialises in the formulation, analysis and quantification of complex claims, including delay and disruption claims, variations, prolongation costs, acceleration claims, damages assessments and other commercial disputes. Services include forensic review and analysis of project records and financial data, preparation of expert reports, formulation of claims and defence strategies, assistance with pleadings and witness statements, management of multidisciplinary experts and the provision of independent expert evidence in adjudication, arbitration and litigation proceedings. HMB also regularly provides strategic support to legal teams to ensure that technical evidence is properly aligned with legal instructions, the pleaded case and the evidentiary requirements of the relevant dispute process.
HMB has worked on construction and engineering projects, programmes, claims and disputes across Southern Africa, East Africa, West Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East, and has experience in almost every sector of the industry, including data centres, healthcare, residential, retail, banking, industrial, mining, infrastructure, education, telecommunications and leisure developments. Services have been provided on projects ranging from individual developments to complex multi-billion-rand programmes and disputes.
In addition to traditional quantity surveying, contract and commercial services, HMB provides strategic procurement advice, management consultancy services and specialist support relating to claims and dispute resolution. HMB has also formed part of strategic and executive teams responsible for establishing and expanding businesses and delivering complex, time-sensitive programmes for leading clients across various sectors.
Whether appointed at project inception to assist with procurement and risk management, or later during claims, disputes and litigation processes, HMB's focus remains the same: delivering practical, reliable and commercially sound solutions tailored to each client's requirements.
